8 | 8 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
9 | 9 | SECTION 1. Chapter 1507, Insurance Code, is amended by | |
10 | 10 | adding Subchapter C to read as follows: | |
11 | 11 | SUBCHAPTER C. CATASTROPHIC PLANS | |
12 | 12 | Sec. 1507.100. CATASTROPHIC HEALTH BENEFIT PLANS. | |
13 | 13 | Notwithstanding Subchapters A and B or any existing requirement, a | |
14 | 14 | health carrier or health maintenance organization may offer a | |
15 | 15 | catastrophic health benefit plan that does not include | |
16 | 16 | state-mandated health benefits as described by 1507.003(a) and | |
17 | 17 | 1507.053(a). | |
18 | 18 | SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act apply only to | |
19 | 19 | a standard health benefit plan that is delivered, issued for | |
20 | 20 | delivery, or renewed on or after September 1, 2017. A policy | |
21 | 21 | delivered, issued for delivery, or renewed before September 1, | |
22 | 22 | 2017, is governed by the law as it existed immediately before the | |
23 | 23 | effective date of this Act, and that law is continued in effect for | |
24 | 24 | that purpose. | |
25 | 25 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
