115 relating to operation of public schools on Memorial Day.
126 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
137 SECTION 1. Section 25.081, Education Code, is amended by
148 adding Subsection (f) to read as follows:
159 (f) A school district may not provide student instruction on
1610 Memorial Day. If a school district would be required to provide
1711 student instruction on Memorial Day to compensate for minutes of
1812 instruction lost because of school closures caused by disaster,
1913 flood, extreme weather conditions, fuel curtailment, or another
2014 calamity, the commissioner shall approve the instruction of
2115 students for fewer than the number of minutes required under
2216 Subsection (a).
2317 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2017-2018
2418 school year.
2519 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2620 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2721 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2822 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2923 Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
