125 relating to restrictions on lobbyist expenditures from certain
136 political contributions.
147 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
158 SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 305, Government Code, is
169 amended by adding Section 305.029 to read as follows:
1710 Sec. 305.029. EXPENDITURES FROM POLITICAL CONTRIBUTIONS
1811 RESTRICTED. (a) In this section, "political contribution,"
1912 "political committee," and "political expenditure" have the
2013 meanings assigned by Section 251.001, Election Code.
2114 (b) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a person
2215 required to register under this chapter may not, at any time
2316 following the date the last term for which the person was elected
2417 ends, knowingly make or authorize, from political contributions
2518 accepted by the person as a candidate or officeholder, a political
2619 expenditure that is a political contribution to another candidate,
2720 officeholder, or political committee.
2821 (c) This section does not prohibit a person from making a
2922 political contribution or political expenditure in support of the
3023 person's own candidacy.
3124 SECTION 2. Section 305.029, Government Code, as added by
3225 this Act, applies to an expenditure made on or after January 8,
3326 2019, from funds accepted as a political contribution, regardless
3427 of the date the funds were accepted.
3528 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect January 8, 2019.
