55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the placement and use of video cameras in
88 self-contained classrooms or other settings providing special
99 education services.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Section 29.022(b), Education Code, is amended to
1212 read as follows:
1313 (b) A school or campus that places a video camera in a
1414 classroom or other special education setting in accordance with
1515 Subsection (a) shall operate and maintain the camera in the
1616 classroom or setting as long as the classroom or setting continues
1717 to satisfy the requirements under Subsection (a). If the classroom
1818 or other special education setting no longer satisfies the
1919 requirements under Subsection (a), the school or campus must
2020 immediately remove the video camera from the classroom or setting.
2121 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2222 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2323 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2424 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2525 Act takes effect September 1, 2017.
