104 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
115 WHEREAS, Texans owe an immense debt of gratitude to the law
126 enforcement, firefighting, and emergency medical service personnel
137 who willingly place themselves in harm's way to protect the public;
148 and
159 WHEREAS, In the course of fulfilling their oath of service,
1610 first responders are routinely called on to take courageous action
1711 in perilous circumstances, and since 2000, more than 300 of these
1812 dedicated professionals have been killed in the line of duty in
1913 Texas; and
2014 WHEREAS, The tragic loss of these brave public servants has a
2115 profound and far-reaching effect on their loved ones and
2216 colleagues; in an attempt to offer assistance and comfort to these
2317 individuals, the Texas Line of Duty Death Task Force was founded in
2418 2001; the organization dispatches response teams to aid families
2519 and emergency service departments in the wake of a first responder
2620 death, and it has also worked to focus attention on the subject;
2721 toward that end, the group observed the inaugural Fallen First
2822 Responder Awareness Month in May 2016; the event not only pays
2923 tribute to first responders who have been killed but also
3024 highlights the ongoing need to offer individualized support
3125 services for those coping with such a loss; and
3226 WHEREAS, First responders render invaluable service to the
3327 residents of the Lone Star State, and it is indeed fitting to honor
3428 the valor and selflessness of these men and women and to remember
3529 those who have made the ultimate sacrifice while working to
3630 safeguard their fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it
3731 RESOLVED, That the 85th Legislature of the State of Texas
3832 hereby designate May as Fallen First Responder Awareness Month;
3933 and, be it further
4034 RESOLVED, That in accordance with the provisions of Section
4135 391.004(d), Government Code, this designation remain in effect
4236 until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally
4337 passed by the legislature.
