11 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Texans owe an immense debt of gratitude to the law |
---|
12 | 6 | | enforcement, firefighting, and emergency medical service personnel |
---|
13 | 7 | | who willingly place themselves in harm's way to protect the public; |
---|

15 | 9 | | WHEREAS, In the course of fulfilling their oath of service, |

16 | 10 | | first responders are routinely called on to take courageous action |
---|
17 | 11 | | in perilous circumstances, and since 2000, more than 300 of these |
---|
18 | 12 | | dedicated professionals have been killed in the line of duty in |
---|
19 | 13 | | Texas; and |
---|
20 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The tragic loss of these brave public servants has a |
---|
21 | 15 | | profound and far-reaching effect on their loved ones and |
---|
22 | 16 | | colleagues; in an attempt to offer assistance and comfort to these |
---|
23 | 17 | | individuals, the Texas Line of Duty Death Task Force was founded in |
---|
24 | 18 | | 2001; the organization dispatches response teams to aid families |
---|
25 | 19 | | and emergency service departments in the wake of a first responder |
---|
26 | 20 | | death, and it has also worked to focus attention on the subject; |
---|
27 | 21 | | toward that end, the group observed the inaugural Fallen First |
---|
28 | 22 | | Responder Awareness Month in May 2016; the event not only pays |
---|
29 | 23 | | tribute to first responders who have been killed but also |
---|
30 | 24 | | highlights the ongoing need to offer individualized support |
---|
31 | 25 | | services for those coping with such a loss; and |
---|
32 | 26 | | WHEREAS, First responders render invaluable service to the |
---|
33 | 27 | | residents of the Lone Star State, and it is indeed fitting to honor |
---|
34 | 28 | | the valor and selflessness of these men and women and to remember |
---|
35 | 29 | | those who have made the ultimate sacrifice while working to |
---|
36 | 30 | | safeguard their fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the 85th Legislature of the State of Texas |

38 | 32 | | hereby designate May as Fallen First Responder Awareness Month; |

40 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That in accordance with the provisions of Section |
