55 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
66 WHEREAS, Since its passage in 2010, the Patient Protection
77 and Affordable Care Act, commonly known as "Obamacare," has caused
88 tremendous financial burden for individuals, families, and
99 employers across the nation; and
1010 WHEREAS, Obamacare has placed a mandate on millions of
1111 Americans to purchase health insurance, whether they want it or can
1212 afford it; the U.S. government should instead ease onerous
1313 regulations by enabling insurance companies to sell coverage across
1414 state lines, as long as such policies comply with state
1515 requirements, and by allowing individuals to buy health insurance
1616 for any other person at any age; and
1717 WHEREAS, In addition to raising the costs of premiums, the
1818 law has strained budgets by imposing numerous new taxes; coverage
1919 would be made more attainable by abolishing the taxes on state
2020 payments to Obamacare and the taxable status of employer-provided
2121 medical insurance; and
2222 WHEREAS, Obamacare has proven to be an inadequate and
2323 unsustainable solution to helping Americans acquire health
2424 insurance, and it is paramount that the federal government
2525 dismantle the law and implement commonsense policies that will
2626 benefit citizens and businesses alike by lowering taxes, improving
2727 choice, and making coverage more affordable; now, therefore, be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the 85th Legislature of the State of Texas
2929 hereby urge the United States Congress to repeal in full the Patient
3030 Protection and Affordable Care Act; and, be it further
3131 RESOLVED, That the Texas secretary of state forward official
3232 copies of this resolution to the president of the United States, to
3333 the president of the Senate and to the speaker of the House of
3434 Representatives of the United States Congress, and to all the
3535 members of the Texas delegation to Congress with the request that
3636 this resolution be entered in the Congressional Record as a
3737 memorial to the Congress of the United States of America.
