 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Since its passage in 2010, the Patient Protection
and Affordable Care Act, commonly known as "Obamacare," has caused
tremendous financial burden for individuals, families, and
 employers across the nation; and
WHEREAS, Obamacare has placed a mandate on millions of
Americans to purchase health insurance, whether they want it or can
afford it; the U.S. government should instead ease onerous
regulations by enabling insurance companies to sell coverage across
state lines, as long as such policies comply with state
requirements, and by allowing individuals to buy health insurance
for any other person at any age; and
WHEREAS, In addition to raising the costs of premiums, the
law has strained budgets by imposing numerous new taxes; coverage
would be made more attainable by abolishing the taxes on state
payments to Obamacare and the taxable status of employer-provided
 medical insurance; and
WHEREAS, Obamacare has proven to be an inadequate and
unsustainable solution to helping Americans acquire health
insurance, and it is paramount that the federal government
dismantle the law and implement commonsense policies that will
benefit citizens and businesses alike by lowering taxes, improving
choice, and making coverage more affordable; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 85th Legislature of the State of Texas
hereby urge the United States Congress to repeal in full the Patient
Protection and Affordable Care Act; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That the Texas secretary of state forward official
copies of this resolution to the president of the United States, to
the president of the Senate and to the speaker of the House of
Representatives of the United States Congress, and to all the
members of the Texas delegation to Congress with the request that
this resolution be entered in the Congressional Record as a
memorial to the Congress of the United States of America.
