 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories
 of Richard Machowicz of Pearland, who passed away on January 2,
 2017, at the age of 51; and
 WHEREAS, Born in Detroit, Michigan, "Mack" Machowicz grew up
 in Florida, and after graduating from high school, he joined the
 United States Navy and served as an operational SEAL for 10 years;
 his military career included a deployment to Scotland, as well as
 assignments in Bosnia, the Arctic, and South Texas; among his
 numerous honors, this decorated veteran was awarded the Navy
 Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the
 Armed Forces Service Medal; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Machowicz studied various forms of martial arts
 for more than two decades, and following his military service, he
 created the Bukido Training System, which was designed to help
 women defend themselves; he also started his own motivational
 company, Not Dead Can't Quit, and in 2000, he wrote Unleash the
 Warrior Within, a self-help book that teaches readers how to
 achieve their goals; he later went on to work as a television host
 for such programs as the Discovery Channel's Future Weapons, Spike
 TV's Deadliest Warrior, and Triggers: Weapons That Changed the
 World, which aired on the Discovery and Military Channels; and
 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Machowicz enjoyed the love
 and support of his wife, Amanda, and together, the couple raised
 their two beautiful daughters, Josephine and Valentina, in
 Pearland; and
 WHEREAS, Although Mr. Machowicz was diagnosed with stage IV
 glioblastoma in August 2015, he continued to find ways to help
 others; shortly before his death, he established the Texas Team
 Foundation, which raises funds for glioblastoma research and
 supports children who suffer from the disease; and
 WHEREAS, Richard Machowicz led a life that was made rich
 through meaningful service to his fellow citizens, and he leaves
 behind a legacy of strength, determination, and kindness that will
 continue to inspire all those who had the good fortune to know him;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the 85th Legislature of the State of Texas
 hereby pay tribute to the memory of Richard Machowicz and extend
 sincere condolences to the members of his family and to his friends;
 and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Legislature
 adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mack Machowicz.
