45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A group of students from The University of Texas at
67 El Paso distinguished themselves by winning first place in the
78 CubeCorps competition sponsored by the United Launch Alliance; and
89 WHEREAS, Established to encourage hands-on science,
910 technology, engineering, and math experiences, the CubeCorps
1011 program provides an opportunity for university students to design a
1112 miniature satellite, known as a CubeSat, and compete for a chance to
1213 have their project launched into space; and
1314 WHEREAS, A skilled team from the UTEP MIRO Center for Space
1415 Exploration and Technology Research developed the winning CubeSat
1516 model, Orbital Factory II, which will demonstrate on-orbit repair
1617 of solar cells using 3-D printing technology; it is scheduled to
1718 travel aboard an Atlas V rocket and be placed into an elliptical
1819 orbit approximately 26,000 miles above Earth's center in 2017; and
1920 WHEREAS, Through their ingenuity, insight, and dedication to
2021 excellence, these exemplary students have earned distinction for
2122 their school and the Lone Star State, and they may indeed take
2223 justifiable pride in their notable achievement; now, therefore, be
2324 it
2425 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
2526 Legislature hereby congratulate the student team from The
2627 University of Texas at El Paso for its first-place finish in the
2728 United Launch Alliance CubeCorps competition and extend to all
2829 those involved with the winning project best wishes for continued
2930 success; and, be it further
3031 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3132 prepared for The University of Texas at El Paso as an expression of
3233 high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
