| 10 | 11 | | Administrators, the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards celebrate |

| 12 | 13 | | inspire a love of learning in students of all backgrounds and |

| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The Rising Star Award recognizes an outstanding |

| 15 | 16 | | elementary school and secondary school teacher with less than 10 |

| 16 | 17 | | years of classroom experience; each winner receives a $5,000 cash |

| 17 | 18 | | prize as well as a $5,000 grant for his or her school; and |

| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, A native of Bryan, Walker Perkins graduated from |

| 19 | 20 | | Calallen High School in 1998 and earned his bachelor's degree magna |

| 20 | 21 | | cum laude from Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi in 2009; he |

| 21 | 22 | | began his teaching career at Baker Middle School in 2010, and in |

| 22 | 23 | | 2015 he transferred to Ray High, where he has had great success |

| 23 | 24 | | teaching International Baccalaureate history classes and serving |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | as the director of the speech and debate program; he is also the |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | school's Destination Imagination sponsor; and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, The education of young Texans is of paramount |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | importance to the future of the Lone Star State, and Walker Perkins |

| 28 | 29 | | has set a standard of excellence to which all in his profession may |

| 29 | 30 | | aspire; now, therefore, be it |

| 30 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
