H.R. No. 1064 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Walker Perkins of W. B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi has been selected as a finalist in the secondary school category for the 2017 H-E-B Excellence in Education Rising Star Award; and WHEREAS, In cooperation with the Texas Association of School Administrators, the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards celebrate public school professionals whose leadership and commitment inspire a love of learning in students of all backgrounds and abilities; and WHEREAS, The Rising Star Award recognizes an outstanding elementary school and secondary school teacher with less than 10 years of classroom experience; each winner receives a $5,000 cash prize as well as a $5,000 grant for his or her school; and WHEREAS, A native of Bryan, Walker Perkins graduated from Calallen High School in 1998 and earned his bachelor's degree magna cum laude from Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi in 2009; he began his teaching career at Baker Middle School in 2010, and in 2015 he transferred to Ray High, where he has had great success teaching International Baccalaureate history classes and serving as the director of the speech and debate program; he is also the school's Destination Imagination sponsor; and WHEREAS, The education of young Texans is of paramount importance to the future of the Lone Star State, and Walker Perkins has set a standard of excellence to which all in his profession may aspire; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Walker Perkins on his selection as a 2017 H-E-B Excellence in Education Rising Star Award finalist and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success with his important work; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Perkins as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
