| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Goodwill Industries of Lubbock is marking a |

| 6 | 7 | | significant milestone in 2017 with the celebration of its 50th |

| 7 | 8 | | anniversary; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Funded by donations from the Lubbock Lions Club and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | the Downtown Rotary Club, the first Goodwill facility in Lubbock |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | opened its doors in 1967, with a mission to provide work for |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | individuals with barriers to employment; the original store and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | workshop, located on 28th Street, had 20 program participants who |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | received valuable training in such skills as laundry, sewing, and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | repair work; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, Goodwill Industries of Lubbock has |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | grown to serve a territory that now spans 45 counties, and in 2015 |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | alone, the nonprofit organization provided job opportunities for |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | more than 18,000 people across the South Plains and Panhandle |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | areas; and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Businesses that employ Texans and contribute to the |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | local economy are important components of a prosperous future, and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Goodwill Industries of Lubbock is deserving of recognition for the |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | positive role it has played in the Northwest Texas community over |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | the last five decades; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of Goodwill |

| 27 | 28 | | Industries of Lubbock and extend to all those associated with the |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | organization sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
