H.R. No. 1073 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Goodwill Industries of Lubbock is marking a significant milestone in 2017 with the celebration of its 50th anniversary; and WHEREAS, Funded by donations from the Lubbock Lions Club and the Downtown Rotary Club, the first Goodwill facility in Lubbock opened its doors in 1967, with a mission to provide work for individuals with barriers to employment; the original store and workshop, located on 28th Street, had 20 program participants who received valuable training in such skills as laundry, sewing, and repair work; and WHEREAS, Over the years, Goodwill Industries of Lubbock has grown to serve a territory that now spans 45 counties, and in 2015 alone, the nonprofit organization provided job opportunities for more than 18,000 people across the South Plains and Panhandle areas; and WHEREAS, Businesses that employ Texans and contribute to the local economy are important components of a prosperous future, and Goodwill Industries of Lubbock is deserving of recognition for the positive role it has played in the Northwest Texas community over the last five decades; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of Goodwill Industries of Lubbock and extend to all those associated with the organization sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
