45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Daniel Breeden Elementary School in Brownsville
67 finished in the top 10 among the thousands of schools across the
78 nation that participated in the annual Great Reading Games,
89 sponsored by Learning Ally; and
910 WHEREAS, Learning Ally is a nonprofit organization that
1011 provides educational materials to children with print
1112 disabilities, including blindness, visual impairment, and
1213 dyslexia; since 2014, it has hosted the Great Reading Games
1314 competition to motivate those students to read more often, with the
1415 goal of improving their reading skills; during this year's contest,
1516 17,000 participants read more than 5 million pages; and
1617 WHEREAS, The Daniel Breeden Elementary School students who
1718 took part in the 2017 Great Reading Games have demonstrated
1819 considerable skill and perseverance in their outstanding
1920 performance, and they are a great source of pride to their school
2021 and their community; now, therefore, be it
2122 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
2223 Legislature hereby congratulate Daniel Breeden Elementary School
2324 on finishing among the top 10 schools in the 2017 Learning Ally
2425 Great Reading Games and extend to all those who took part in the
2526 competition sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
2627 further
2728 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2829 prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
2930 House of Representatives.
