H.R. No. 1162 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Daniel Breeden Elementary School in Brownsville finished in the top 10 among the thousands of schools across the nation that participated in the annual Great Reading Games, sponsored by Learning Ally; and WHEREAS, Learning Ally is a nonprofit organization that provides educational materials to children with print disabilities, including blindness, visual impairment, and dyslexia; since 2014, it has hosted the Great Reading Games competition to motivate those students to read more often, with the goal of improving their reading skills; during this year's contest, 17,000 participants read more than 5 million pages; and WHEREAS, The Daniel Breeden Elementary School students who took part in the 2017 Great Reading Games have demonstrated considerable skill and perseverance in their outstanding performance, and they are a great source of pride to their school and their community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Daniel Breeden Elementary School on finishing among the top 10 schools in the 2017 Learning Ally Great Reading Games and extend to all those who took part in the competition sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
