| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. David Abarca of Corpus Christi has contributed |

| 6 | 7 | | to the welfare of his fellow citizens through his leadership in |

| 7 | 8 | | several areas of vital concern; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, An alumnus of the University of Phoenix, Dr. Abarca |

| 9 | 10 | | earned a bachelor's degree in business administration, a master's |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | degree in computer information systems, and a doctorate in |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | education leadership; he has served as president of Cyber Security |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Solutions since 1999, and in 2002, he joined the faculty of Del Mar |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | College, where he currently works as director of the cybersecurity |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | program and as an associate professor of computer science; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Widely respected in his field, Dr. Abarca has served |

| 16 | 17 | | on the Texas Cybersecurity, Education and Economic Development |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Council for the past six years; moreover, in February 2017, he was |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | selected by the FBI to head the Coastal Bend Special Interest Group |

| 19 | 20 | | of the bureau's Houston InfraGard program, an initiative designed |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | to help protect our nation's infrastructure; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in |

| 22 | 23 | | October 2016, Dr. Abarca generously volunteered his time as an |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | organizer for the Del Mar College Rocks Pink drive, which was part |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | of the national Real Men Wear Pink campaign of the American Cancer |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Society; for the second consecutive year, he ardently promoted |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | awareness of the fund-raiser by dyeing his hair and beard pink, and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | he went on to successfully collect an average of $100 per day that |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | month; he was later honored for his outstanding efforts by the Del |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | Mar College Board of Regents; and |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Dr. David Abarca has set a sterling example of civic |

| 31 | 32 | | engagement, and it is truly a pleasure to honor him for his efforts |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | to help advance national security and cancer research; now, |

| 34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
