45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Former Waxahachie High School boys' basketball
67 coach Lonnie Gaylor received well-deserved recognition with his
78 induction into the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Hall of
89 Fame on May 21, 2016; and
910 WHEREAS, A graduate of Jacksonville High School, Lonnie
1011 Gaylor attended Jacksonville College, where he was a member of the
1112 school's basketball squad, and he later earned bachelor's and
1213 master's degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University; he began
1314 his career as a basketball coach in 1972 at Nacogdoches High School
1415 and enjoyed a successful stint at Marlin High before beginning a
1516 16-year tenure at Graham High School; there, his teams twice went
1617 undefeated during the regular season, and in 1996, Graham advanced
1718 all the way to the University Interscholastic League Class 3A state
1819 championship game; and
1920 WHEREAS, Coach Gaylor took the reins at Waxahachie High
2021 School in 1997, and during his 11 seasons as head coach of the
2122 Indians, he guided his teams to 8 postseason appearances and 2 trips
2223 to the regional round of the UIL playoffs; he retired in 2008,
2324 leaving the coaching ranks after 36 years with an impressive total
2425 of 706 wins and numerous Coach of the Year accolades; and
2526 WHEREAS, Widely respected by his peers, Coach Gaylor has
2627 contributed to his profession through his service as a board
2728 member, board secretary, and president of the Texas Association of
2829 Basketball Coaches; moreover, he has regularly shared his talents
2930 at TABC clinics and was a coach for the 1996 TABC All-Star Game; in
3031 all his endeavors, he has been blessed with the love and support of
3132 his wife, Myra, and his children, Allyson and Brent, and he takes
3233 great pride in his grandchildren, Hanna, Court, and Sydni; and
3334 WHEREAS, With his exceptional ability to teach and motivate,
3435 Lonnie Gaylor has made a positive difference in the lives of
3536 thousands of young athletes, and he has earned a place among the
3637 legendary basketball coaches of the Lone Star State; now,
3738 therefore, be it
3839 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
3940 Legislature hereby congratulate Lonnie Gaylor on his induction into
4041 the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame as a member
4142 of the Class of 2016 and extend to him sincere best wishes for the
4243 future; and, be it further
4344 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4445 prepared for Mr. Gaylor as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4546 House of Representatives.
