H.R. No. 1443 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A 75th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of mutual devotion and shared experiences, and Sterman and Virgie Young of Post celebrated this joyous milestone in their marriage on July 3, 2016; and WHEREAS, Living on neighboring farms in Jack County, Sterman Young and the former Virgie Potts eloped and were united in matrimony in Walters, Oklahoma, in 1941; the couple have been blessed with three beloved children, Ginny Bolin and her husband, Sam, Gary Young and his wife, Peggy, and Nina Daniel and her husband, Pete, and today, they take great pride in their granddaughters, Betsey and Tracy, and their great-granddaughters, Amanda and Ashley; and WHEREAS, Though they made their home in California and in other Texas towns at the beginning of their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Young settled down in Post in 1947 and have remained there ever since; Mr. Young is a veteran of World War II and has enjoyed a successful career in the Texas oilfields, becoming a production foreman for Grisham-Hunter in 1948; after leaving the company as district superintendent 35 years later, he spent some time consulting for Fina before retiring for good; Mrs. Young has worked at the Postex Cotton Mill and as a bookkeeper for several different businesses; and WHEREAS, The life that Mr. and Mrs. Young built together has been further enriched by their many travels in their Airstream trailer to visit friends; in addition, Mr. Young takes pleasure in fishing and woodworking, and Mrs. Young counts crocheting, sewing, quilting, and ceramics among her favorite hobbies; and WHEREAS, While much has changed in the world over the past 75 years, this devoted husband and wife have remained constant in their commitment to each other, and the strength of their love has enabled them to meet life's challenges and opportunities with grace and optimism; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Sterman and Virgie Young on their 75th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Young as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
