| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt by |

| 6 | 7 | | the loved ones of John Leonard Callan of Jacksboro, a remarkable |

| 7 | 8 | | young man whose life was cut tragically short on November 26, 2016, |

| 8 | 9 | | at the age of 17; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Born on February 2, 1999, in Fort Worth, Johnny |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Callan was the son of Kerri LeDoux and Joe Callan and the brother of |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Grant, Beau, and Alexis; he was a senior at Jacksboro High School, |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | where he served his peers as president of the FFA program and as |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Area IV FFA president; he frequently showcased his talents in FFA |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | competitions, contributing to the National Champion Team in the |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | range evaluation event and placing in various other state FFA |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | contests; named a Ford Leadership Scholar at the state level, he |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | attended the National FFA Convention and numerous state conventions |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | as a voting delegate and won championship titles at livestock |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | market goat shows across Texas; and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, A gifted and hardworking student, Mr. Callan was |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | poised to graduate as valedictorian of the Class of 2017 at his |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | school; he served as president of the student council, and he also |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | found time to participate in a host of other extracurricular |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | groups, including the Beta Club, the National Honor Society, 4-H, |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes; dedicated to giving back |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | to his community as well, he designed, raised funds, and personally |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | met with city officials to facilitate the construction of a public |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | lake dock, and he helped plan "Operation Restoration," a campaign |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | to clean up houses for those who lacked the means to do so; fueled by |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | tremendous passion and drive in everything he did, he was also kind |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | and caring to everyone, and he even volunteered some of his spare |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | time, free of charge, to fellow students in need of tutoring; and |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Although it is immeasurably painful to say goodbye |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | to one so young and full of promise, Johnny Callan leaves behind |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | countless people who admired and cherished him, and they will |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | forever remember the joy and inspiration that he brought into their |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | lives; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of John Leonard Callan |

| 40 | 41 | | and extend heartfelt condolences to all those who mourn his |

| 41 | 42 | | passing; and, be it further |
