| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Irma Alonzo has been named the 2016-2017 Teacher of |

| 6 | 7 | | the Year at John F. Kennedy Elementary School in Corpus Christi; and |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A solid education is vital for young people to |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | become successful and productive adults, and those men and women |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | who dedicate their careers to teaching make a positive difference |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | in the lives of their students and in the greater community; and |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, A member of the Kennedy Elementary faculty for the |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | past decade, Ms. Alonzo taught pre-K and kindergarten classes |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | before becoming a first grade teacher in 2013; she is an alumna of |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi, where she completed a |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies in 2007; and |

| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Irma Alonzo exemplifies the passion, determination, |

| 17 | 18 | | and innovative spirit that are the hallmarks of our best teachers, |

| 18 | 19 | | and she has set a standard of excellence to which all in her |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | profession may aspire; now, therefore, be it |

| 20 | 21 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 21 | 22 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Irma Alonzo on her selection as the |

| 22 | 23 | | 2016-2017 Teacher of the Year at John F. Kennedy Elementary School |
