H.R. No. 1517 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Henry Hernandez of Irving has been named a Distinguished Finalist in the 2017 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program, in recognition of his work as one of the top youth volunteers in Texas; and WHEREAS, Sponsored by Prudential Financial and the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the Spirit of Community Awards honor young people in middle school and high school who demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to serving their communities; this year, more than 31,000 teens from across the nation participated in the program; and WHEREAS, A senior at MacArthur High School, Mr. Hernandez has made an outstanding effort to address poverty in his community; in 2014, he worked with his parents, local businesses, and his pastor and youth group to establish Project Sheltering Jesus, which has since provided over 100 homeless individuals with food and vital support services; and WHEREAS, The strength and vitality of the State of Texas depend, in great measure, on the initiative of young people such as Henry Hernandez, who use their considerable talents and resources to serve others; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Henry Hernandez on his selection as a Distinguished Finalist in the 22nd annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program and extend to him sincere best wishes in all his future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Hernandez as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
