5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories |

6 | 7 | | of Dortha Waddell Williamson of Junction, who passed away on |

7 | 8 | | December 26, 2016, at the age of 93; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The ninth child of Kate Waddell and Elkin "Babe" |

9 | 10 | | Waddell, the former Dortha Waddell was born on August 7, 1923, at |
---|
10 | 11 | | her family's ranch in Menard; she received her early education in |
---|
11 | 12 | | the one-room Waddell Schoolhouse and later continued her studies in |
---|
12 | 13 | | town, where she and her friends Doris Lankford and Reta Crowell |
---|
13 | 14 | | became known as the "Rat Pack"; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Shortly before the outbreak of World War II, she met |
---|
15 | 16 | | the love of her life, Loyd "Butch" Williamson, at a Race Meet dance |
---|
16 | 17 | | in Junction; the couple married on September 6, 1942, and went on to |
---|
17 | 18 | | share a rewarding union that spanned 54 years before |
---|
18 | 19 | | Mr. Williamson's passing in 1996; she was deeply devoted to her two |
---|
19 | 20 | | daughters, Delia and Rana, and to her surrogate sons, Adolfo, |
---|
20 | 21 | | Sergio, and Ivan Ponce; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Williamson operated Buster's Laundry and |

22 | 23 | | Cleaners with her husband and took an active role in the community, |
---|
23 | 24 | | giving freely of her time and talents to the Business and |
---|
24 | 25 | | Professional Women's Club and the Texas Cattlewomen; moreover, she |
---|
25 | 26 | | served as Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 497 |
---|
26 | 27 | | in Junction and as president of the Daedalian Study Club, which she |
---|
27 | 28 | | helped found; and |
---|
28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, A fifth-generation Texan, Mrs. Williamson took |
---|
29 | 30 | | tremendous pride in her family's history and often told stories |
---|
30 | 31 | | about her parents and her grandparents, Daniel and Georgeanne |
---|
31 | 32 | | Waddell and Alf and Charlcie Reeves; she was also an accomplished |
---|
32 | 33 | | horseback rider and had a passion for felines, pretty shoes, and |
---|
33 | 34 | | dancing; and |
---|
34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Known for her warmth, her kindness, and her |
---|
35 | 36 | | resilience, Dortha Williamson led a caring and purposeful life, and |
---|
36 | 37 | | those who were fortunate enough to know her will forever hold her |

37 | 38 | | close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
---|
38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dortha Waddell |

40 | 41 | | Williamson and extend deepest condolences to the members of her |

41 | 42 | | family and to her friends; and, be it further |
