| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, President Ronald Reagan created National |

| 9 | 10 | | Correctional Officers Week in 1984, and two years later, Congress |

| 10 | 11 | | expanded the focus to include all the employees of our nation's |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | prisons and jails; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Texas is home to some of the most qualified, |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | resourceful, and committed correctional officers and employees in |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | the nation; each day, they are tasked with ensuring both the safety |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | of the public and the welfare of the inmates in their care, while |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | simultaneously maintaining crucial operations under demanding and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | often dangerous conditions; and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Correctional officers and employees in the Lone Star |

| 19 | 20 | | State continually rise to meet the challenges associated with their |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | profession, and this observance provides a fitting opportunity to |

| 21 | 22 | | recognize their hard work and dedication; now, therefore, be it |

| 22 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 23 | 24 | | Legislature hereby recognize May 7-13, 2017, as National |

| 24 | 25 | | Correctional Officers and Employees Week and honor our state's |

| 25 | 26 | | correctional officers and employees for their vital contributions |
