 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Across the United States, National Correctional
 Officers and Employees Week is being celebrated from May 7 through
 13, 2017; and
 WHEREAS, President Ronald Reagan created National
 Correctional Officers Week in 1984, and two years later, Congress
 expanded the focus to include all the employees of our nation's
 prisons and jails; and
 WHEREAS, Texas is home to some of the most qualified,
 resourceful, and committed correctional officers and employees in
 the nation; each day, they are tasked with ensuring both the safety
 of the public and the welfare of the inmates in their care, while
 simultaneously maintaining crucial operations under demanding and
 often dangerous conditions; and
 WHEREAS, Correctional officers and employees in the Lone Star
 State continually rise to meet the challenges associated with their
 profession, and this observance provides a fitting opportunity to
 recognize their hard work and dedication; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby recognize May 7-13, 2017, as National
 Correctional Officers and Employees Week and honor our state's
 correctional officers and employees for their vital contributions
 to their fellow citizens.
