| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, |

| 9 | 10 | | National Night Out provides an opportunity for Texans to join |

| 10 | 11 | | forces with individuals in thousands of towns and cities across the |

| 11 | 12 | | country to promote cooperative crime prevention efforts; and |

| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Each year, communities host cookouts, parades, |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | flashlight walks, and other events for National Night Out, helping |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | to build neighborhood cohesiveness, strengthen relations between |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | residents and local police, and increase awareness of anticrime |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | strategies while sending the message that citizens are organized |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | and committed to deterring criminal activity; and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, In 2016, the Leander Police Department helped |

| 19 | 20 | | sponsor a number of special functions for National Night Out, |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | including barbecues, visits from emergency responders, porch light |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | and photo contests, and youth activities; the department's |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | initiative was recognized as one of the most successful in the state |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | and among the top 20 in the nation for cities of its size; and |

| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The importance of reducing crime, drug use, and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | violence cannot be overstated, and by taking part in National Night |

| 26 | 27 | | Out, residents of Leander are affirming their commitment to making |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | their community stronger and safer; now, therefore, be it |

| 28 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 29 | 30 | | Legislature hereby commend the Leander Police Department for its |

| 30 | 31 | | leadership and participation in the National Night Out Against |

| 31 | 32 | | Crime program and extend to all those involved sincere best wishes |
