H.R. No. 1913 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Residents of Leander will celebrate the Leander Police Department's National Night Out Against Crime on October 3, 2017; and WHEREAS, Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, National Night Out provides an opportunity for Texans to join forces with individuals in thousands of towns and cities across the country to promote cooperative crime prevention efforts; and WHEREAS, Each year, communities host cookouts, parades, flashlight walks, and other events for National Night Out, helping to build neighborhood cohesiveness, strengthen relations between residents and local police, and increase awareness of anticrime strategies while sending the message that citizens are organized and committed to deterring criminal activity; and WHEREAS, In 2016, the Leander Police Department helped sponsor a number of special functions for National Night Out, including barbecues, visits from emergency responders, porch light and photo contests, and youth activities; the department's initiative was recognized as one of the most successful in the state and among the top 20 in the nation for cities of its size; and WHEREAS, The importance of reducing crime, drug use, and violence cannot be overstated, and by taking part in National Night Out, residents of Leander are affirming their commitment to making their community stronger and safer; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby commend the Leander Police Department for its leadership and participation in the National Night Out Against Crime program and extend to all those involved sincere best wishes for a successful and memorable 2017 observance; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Leander Police Department as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
