| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Shawn Mena is beginning her tenure as principal of |

| 6 | 7 | | Franklin High School in El Paso on April 3, 2017; and |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Mena has enjoyed a notable career in education |

| 8 | 9 | | that has spanned more than a quarter century; her wide-ranging |

| 9 | 10 | | experience includes working as a speech and debate instructor for |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | the Ysleta Independent School District and as a lecturer at El Paso |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Community College and The University of Texas at El Paso; prior to |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | taking on the role of principal at Franklin High, she served as |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | director and assistant principal of the Arts and Humanities Academy |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | at Akins High School in Austin; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed educator and administrator has also |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | distinguished herself as president of the Texas Forensic |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Association, which inducted her into its hall of fame in 2009; an |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | alumna of UTEP, where she earned both her bachelor's and master's |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | degrees, she is currently pursuing a doctorate in education at |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | Grand Canyon University; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Through her professional expertise and her |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | unwavering commitment to excellence, Shawn Mena has made a positive |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | difference in the lives of countless young Texans, and she may |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | indeed reflect with pride on her many accomplishments as she takes |

| 25 | 26 | | on this challenging new role; now, therefore, be it |

| 26 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 27 | 28 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Shawn Mena on her appointment as |

| 28 | 29 | | principal of Franklin High School and extend to her sincere best |
