H.R. No. 1931 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Shawn Mena is beginning her tenure as principal of Franklin High School in El Paso on April 3, 2017; and WHEREAS, Ms. Mena has enjoyed a notable career in education that has spanned more than a quarter century; her wide-ranging experience includes working as a speech and debate instructor for the Ysleta Independent School District and as a lecturer at El Paso Community College and The University of Texas at El Paso; prior to taking on the role of principal at Franklin High, she served as director and assistant principal of the Arts and Humanities Academy at Akins High School in Austin; and WHEREAS, This esteemed educator and administrator has also distinguished herself as president of the Texas Forensic Association, which inducted her into its hall of fame in 2009; an alumna of UTEP, where she earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees, she is currently pursuing a doctorate in education at Grand Canyon University; and WHEREAS, Through her professional expertise and her unwavering commitment to excellence, Shawn Mena has made a positive difference in the lives of countless young Texans, and she may indeed reflect with pride on her many accomplishments as she takes on this challenging new role; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Shawn Mena on her appointment as principal of Franklin High School and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Mena as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
