H.R. No. 1961
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Emily Lopez has been presented with a Community
Service Award from the TRIO Islanders Organization at Texas A&M
University--Corpus Christi; and
WHEREAS, The TRIO Islanders Organization is part of the
university's Programs for Academic Student Support (PASS)
initiative, which furthers the goals of TAMU--CC by providing
resources to low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented
students; in receiving a Community Service Award, Ms. Lopez was
recognized for participating in a number of local service projects
coordinated by TRIO Islanders; and
WHEREAS, A sophomore at TAMU--CC, Ms. Lopez is working toward
a degree in criminal justice with a minor in prelaw; after
graduating, she plans to continue her study of law in order to
pursue a career as an immigration attorney and to someday provide
low-cost legal services to the residents of her hometown of
Brownsville; and
WHEREAS, Emily Lopez is indeed deserving of this prestigious
honor, and she may look forward to a future bright with promise;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Emily Lopez on her receipt of a
TRIO Islanders Organization Community Service Award and extend to
her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Lopez as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
