45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
67 passing of Larry Huber Senkel of Houston on March 28, 2016, at the
78 age of 68; and
89 WHEREAS, The son of Woodrow Ernst Senkel and Beatrice Adele
910 Huber Senkel, Larry Senkel was born in Dallas on April 22, 1947;
1011 after graduating from Monterey High School in Lubbock, he earned a
1112 business degree at Texas Tech University, where he was the
1213 president of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity; and
1314 WHEREAS, Mr. Senkel began his career with Continental
1415 Insurance in Dallas; when he relocated to Houston in the early
1516 1970s, he continued his rise to prominence as a leader in the
1617 insurance industry, eventually becoming one of the top surety bond
1718 brokers in the nation in his role as senior vice president for the
1819 Surety and Risk Group at Willis Towers Watson; and
1920 WHEREAS, A man of profound religious faith, Mr. Senkel met
2021 his future wife, Carol Lewis, at a Bible study meeting at Memorial
2122 Drive Presbyterian Church; the couple were joined in matrimony on
2223 July 20, 1980, and they shared a loving marriage that spanned more
2324 than 35 years; Mr. Senkel was the proud father of two children,
2425 Natalie and Nicholas, and later in life, he was blessed with three
2526 grandchildren, Anna, Lauren, and Woodrow; and
2627 WHEREAS, In his spare time, Mr. Senkel enjoyed waterskiing
2728 and traveling, and he was active in his community, working the
2829 barbecue pit at the Greek Festival and serving on the International
2930 Committee of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo; and
3031 WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Larry Senkel
3132 will long remember the way he touched their lives with his warmth,
3233 his generosity, and his infectious smile, and he will forever hold a
3334 treasured place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
3435 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
3536 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Larry Huber Senkel
3637 and extend heartfelt sympathy to his relatives and many friends;
3738 and, be it further
3839 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3940 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4041 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Larry
4142 Senkel.
