H.R. No. 2059 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, William Andrew Scanlon II has been presented with a Rising Star Award from the TRIO Islanders Organization at Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi; and WHEREAS, The TRIO Islanders Organization is part of the university's Programs for Academic Student Support (PASS) initiative, which furthers the goals of TAMU--CC by providing resources to low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented students; in receiving a Rising Star Award, William was recognized for his academic achievements and community involvement; and WHEREAS, A high-achieving third grader, William was born in San Diego, California, but grew up primarily in Yokosuka, Japan, where he was introduced to cultural diversity at a young age; the son of navy veteran William A. Scanlon and Marisa Bel Scanlon, he enjoys reading books, listening to music, singing, dancing, and practicing his Japanese; he plans to study engineering and robotics in college in pursuit of his dreams of doing great things to help others; and WHEREAS, William Andrew Scanlon II is indeed deserving of this prestigious honor, and he may look forward to a future bright with promise; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate William Andrew Scanlon II on his receipt of a TRIO Islanders Organization Rising Star Award and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for William as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
