| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Trish Hanks is retiring as superintendent of the |

| 6 | 7 | | Friendswood Independent School District at the end of the 2016-2017 |

| 7 | 8 | | school year, drawing to a close an outstanding career in education |

| 8 | 9 | | that has spanned nearly four decades; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Trish Hanks earned her bachelor's degree at Sam |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Houston State University and her master's degree from the |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | University of Houston-Clear Lake; she began her career 38 years |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | ago, and she first joined Friendswood ISD in 1985 as a high school |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | teacher; over the years, she has served the district as director of |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | special education and special programs, personnel director, |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | deputy superintendent; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Since Mrs. Hanks became district superintendent in |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | 2002, Friendswood ISD has regularly ranked among the top one |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | percent of districts in Texas for student performance, earned |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | exemplary ratings for all six campuses and for the district itself |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | from the Texas Education Agency, and passed the largest bond |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | program in its history, resulting in the construction of the new |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | Friendswood Junior High School; moreover, the district has earned a |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | superior financial rating each year from the TEA; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, In addition, Mrs. Hanks has served as president of |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | the State Academic Decathlon Board, as well as a member of the |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | executive committee of the Texas Association of School |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Administrators and the Region IV Executive Advisory Committee; she |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | has further given back to her community as a member of the Education |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | Advisory Committee of the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership, |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | the City of Friendswood Economic Development Council, the |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | Friendswood Chamber of Commerce, and the Friendswood Rotary Club; a |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | member of Mary Queen Catholic Church, she has also served on its |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | Pastoral Council; and |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Mrs. Hanks enjoys the love and |

| 36 | 37 | | support of her husband, Bruce Hanks, and their two children and four |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan's dedication, professionalism, |

| 39 | 40 | | and commitment to excellence have greatly benefited the students of |
|---|
| 40 | 41 | | Friendswood ISD and earned her the respect and admiration of her |

| 41 | 42 | | colleagues, and she may indeed reflect with pride on a career well |

| 42 | 43 | | spent as she embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life; now, |

| 44 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

| 45 | 46 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Trish Hanks on her retirement from |
