 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Trish Hanks is retiring as superintendent of the
 Friendswood Independent School District at the end of the 2016-2017
 school year, drawing to a close an outstanding career in education
 that has spanned nearly four decades; and
 WHEREAS, Trish Hanks earned her bachelor's degree at Sam
 Houston State University and her master's degree from the
 University of Houston-Clear Lake; she began her career 38 years
 ago, and she first joined Friendswood ISD in 1985 as a high school
 teacher; over the years, she has served the district as director of
 special education and special programs, personnel director,
 assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, and
 deputy superintendent; and
 WHEREAS, Since Mrs. Hanks became district superintendent in
 2002, Friendswood ISD has regularly ranked among the top one
 percent of districts in Texas for student performance, earned
 exemplary ratings for all six campuses and for the district itself
 from the Texas Education Agency, and passed the largest bond
 program in its history, resulting in the construction of the new
 Friendswood Junior High School; moreover, the district has earned a
 superior financial rating each year from the TEA; and
 WHEREAS, In addition, Mrs. Hanks has served as president of
 the State Academic Decathlon Board, as well as a member of the
 executive committee of the Texas Association of School
 Administrators and the Region IV Executive Advisory Committee; she
 has further given back to her community as a member of the Education
 Advisory Committee of the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership,
 the City of Friendswood Economic Development Council, the
 Friendswood Chamber of Commerce, and the Friendswood Rotary Club; a
 member of Mary Queen Catholic Church, she has also served on its
 Pastoral Council; and
 WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Mrs. Hanks enjoys the love and
 support of her husband, Bruce Hanks, and their two children and four
 grandchildren; and
 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan's dedication, professionalism,
 and commitment to excellence have greatly benefited the students of
 Friendswood ISD and earned her the respect and admiration of her
 colleagues, and she may indeed reflect with pride on a career well
 spent as she embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Trish Hanks on her retirement from
 the Friendswood Independent School District and extend to her
 sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mrs. Hanks as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
