H.R. No. 225
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Jonathan Millington of Waco has been named a
National Merit Commended Student; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1955, the National Merit Scholarship
Program recognizes high school students throughout the country for
their academic excellence; commended students are chosen on the
basis of their Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship
Qualifying Test scores, with honorees placing among the top five
percent of the approximately 1.6 million individuals who take the
examination each year; and
WHEREAS, A senior at Rapoport Academy, Mr. Millington is a
member of the National Honor Society and a mentor for fifth-grade
students through the Peer Assistance and Leadership program; he has
received numerous accolades for his scholastic achievements,
including an invitation to the Distinguished Scholars Day at Baylor
University, medals for his performance on the ACT, and recognition
as a Duke University Talent Identification Program scholar; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Millington will graduate in May 2017 with both
his high school diploma and an associate of science degree from
McLennan Community College; following commencement, he plans to
double major in mathematics and linguistics in college and
eventually pursue a career as a university professor; and
WHEREAS, The son of James and Kim Millington, Jonathan
Millington has demonstrated exceptional initiative and maturity in
working toward his goals, and he may indeed reflect with pride on
all he has accomplished as he looks forward to a future bright with
promise; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Jonathan Millington on his
selection as a National Merit Commended Student and extend to him
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Millington as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
