H.R. No. 228 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, LaGay Pittenger of Lakewood Elementary School in Belton has been nominated for the Texas Elementary Teacher of the Year award, a first for the Belton Independent School District; and WHEREAS, Each year, the Texas Association of School Administrators recognizes teachers who have set an inspiring example of passion for and dedication to their work; Mrs. Pittenger became a finalist for the award after being named Elementary Teacher of the Year for Education Service Center Region 12 and Belton ISD; she is currently the fifth-grade team leader at Lakewood Elementary, where she teaches reading, language arts, and American history; and WHEREAS, A veteran educator with more than 25 years of experience, including 23 years at Lakewood, Mrs. Pittenger received her undergraduate degree in education from Abilene Christian University; in addition to teaching many elementary grade levels, she has earned specialized certifications in elementary art, ESL, and gifted and talented education; she has also served as a caring and dedicated mentor to younger colleagues; and WHEREAS, With the professionalism and enthusiasm that are the hallmarks of a great teacher, LaGay Pittenger has devoted her career to instilling in children a love of learning that will serve them well throughout their lives; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate LaGay Pittenger on her nomination for Texas Elementary Teacher of the Year and commend her for her many years of outstanding service in education; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Pittenger as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
