45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, David A. Byrnes retired as sheriff of Kaufman County
67 on December 31, 2016, drawing to a close 16 years of distinguished
78 service in that office; and
89 WHEREAS, Mr. Byrnes began his career in law enforcement as a
910 patrol deputy for the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office in 1969; the
1011 following year, he accepted a post with the Texas Department of
1112 Public Safety, and he worked as a highway patrolman in Pecos,
1213 Denton, and Fort Davis before joining the Texas Rangers Division in
1314 1979; he went on to earn promotion to lieutenant and then captain,
1415 and he ably served as the task force commander in charge of the
1516 Branch Davidian investigation in Waco in 1993; and
1617 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan retired from the rangers in
1718 1996, and in 2000 he was elected as Kaufman County sheriff; in that
1819 role, he ably executed his many duties, and his outstanding efforts
1920 garnered him the respect and loyalty of area voters, who returned
2021 him to office for three additional terms; and
2122 WHEREAS, David Byrnes exemplified the highest ideals of his
2223 profession throughout a career that spanned nearly half a century,
2324 and in so doing, he immeasurably contributed to the many
2425 communities in which he served; now, therefore, be it
2526 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
2627 Legislature hereby congratulate David A. Byrnes on his retirement
2728 as sheriff of Kaufman County and extend to him sincere best wishes
2829 for continued happiness and fulfillment; and, be it further
2930 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3031 prepared for Mr. Byrnes as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3132 House of Representatives.
