| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, David A. Byrnes retired as sheriff of Kaufman County |

| 6 | 7 | | on December 31, 2016, drawing to a close 16 years of distinguished |

| 7 | 8 | | service in that office; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Byrnes began his career in law enforcement as a |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | patrol deputy for the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office in 1969; the |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | following year, he accepted a post with the Texas Department of |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Public Safety, and he worked as a highway patrolman in Pecos, |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Denton, and Fort Davis before joining the Texas Rangers Division in |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | 1979; he went on to earn promotion to lieutenant and then captain, |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | and he ably served as the task force commander in charge of the |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Branch Davidian investigation in Waco in 1993; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan retired from the rangers in |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | 1996, and in 2000 he was elected as Kaufman County sheriff; in that |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | role, he ably executed his many duties, and his outstanding efforts |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | garnered him the respect and loyalty of area voters, who returned |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | him to office for three additional terms; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, David Byrnes exemplified the highest ideals of his |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | profession throughout a career that spanned nearly half a century, |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | and in so doing, he immeasurably contributed to the many |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | communities in which he served; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Legislature hereby congratulate David A. Byrnes on his retirement |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | as sheriff of Kaufman County and extend to him sincere best wishes |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | for continued happiness and fulfillment; and, be it further |

| 29 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
