| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Robert Capello Sr., head coach of the Edcouch-Elsa |

| 7 | 8 | | milestone when he recorded his 1,000th win on January 6, 2017; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, This accomplishment took place in front of a home |

| 9 | 10 | | crowd as the Yellow Jackets defeated Pace High School of |

| 10 | 11 | | Brownsville by a score of 88-83; with the triumph, Mr. Capello |

| 11 | 12 | | earned the distinction of becoming only the fourth high school |

| 12 | 13 | | coach in Texas to have compiled 1,000 victories; he is also the |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | winningest active high school basketball coach of Hispanic descent |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | in the nation; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, A member of the Class of 1960 at Edcouch-Elsa High, |

| 16 | 17 | | where he distinguished himself as an All-Star quarterback and a |

| 17 | 18 | | basketball star, Mr. Capello went on to graduate with a bachelor's |

| 18 | 19 | | degree from Texas A&I University and a master's degree from Sam |

| 19 | 20 | | Houston State University; he began his coaching career in 1965 and |

| 20 | 21 | | gained experience at Mission, Lyford, Donna, Barbers Hill, Uvalde, |

| 21 | 22 | | and Port Arthur High Schools before being hired as head boys' |

| 22 | 23 | | basketball coach by his alma mater; and |

| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Capello built a storied tenure at Edcouch-Elsa |

| 24 | 25 | | High that spanned more than three decades before retiring in 2012, |

| 25 | 26 | | but three years later, he returned to begin another chapter as head |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | coach; in recognition of his outstanding record of success, which |

| 27 | 28 | | includes repeatedly guiding the Yellow Jackets to the playoffs, the |

| 28 | 29 | | school named its gymnasium in his honor in 2005; and |

| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Along the way, Mr. Capello has been supported by the |

| 30 | 31 | | love and encouragement of his wife, Gloria, and he takes tremendous |

| 31 | 32 | | pride in their four sons, Robert Jr., Ricky, Ronny, and Randy; and |

| 32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, In reaching the 1,000-win plateau, Robert Capello |

| 33 | 34 | | has earned a special place in the pantheon of Lone Star State |

| 34 | 35 | | basketball coaches, and this rare feat is indeed deserving of |

| 35 | 36 | | commendation; now, therefore, be it |
