 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Robert Capello Sr., head coach of the Edcouch-Elsa
 High School boys' basketball team, reached a significant career
 milestone when he recorded his 1,000th win on January 6, 2017; and
 WHEREAS, This accomplishment took place in front of a home
 crowd as the Yellow Jackets defeated Pace High School of
 Brownsville by a score of 88-83; with the triumph, Mr. Capello
 earned the distinction of becoming only the fourth high school
 coach in Texas to have compiled 1,000 victories; he is also the
 winningest active high school basketball coach of Hispanic descent
 in the nation; and
 WHEREAS, A member of the Class of 1960 at Edcouch-Elsa High,
 where he distinguished himself as an All-Star quarterback and a
 basketball star, Mr. Capello went on to graduate with a bachelor's
 degree from Texas A&I University and a master's degree from Sam
 Houston State University; he began his coaching career in 1965 and
 gained experience at Mission, Lyford, Donna, Barbers Hill, Uvalde,
 and Port Arthur High Schools before being hired as head boys'
 basketball coach by his alma mater; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Capello built a storied tenure at Edcouch-Elsa
 High that spanned more than three decades before retiring in 2012,
 but three years later, he returned to begin another chapter as head
 coach; in recognition of his outstanding record of success, which
 includes repeatedly guiding the Yellow Jackets to the playoffs, the
 school named its gymnasium in his honor in 2005; and
 WHEREAS, Along the way, Mr. Capello has been supported by the
 love and encouragement of his wife, Gloria, and he takes tremendous
 pride in their four sons, Robert Jr., Ricky, Ronny, and Randy; and
 WHEREAS, In reaching the 1,000-win plateau, Robert Capello
 has earned a special place in the pantheon of Lone Star State
 basketball coaches, and this rare feat is indeed deserving of
 commendation; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Robert Capello Sr. on his 1,000th
 career victory and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
 success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Coach Capello as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
