5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |

6 | 7 | | passing of Peggy Butler Duda of Lockhart on November 14, 2016, at |

7 | 8 | | the age of 80; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in San Augustine County on July 2, 1936, to |
---|
9 | 10 | | Allie V. Quinn Butler and J. D. Butler, the former Peggy Butler grew |
---|
10 | 11 | | up with the companionship of her two sisters, Joy and Shirby; she |
---|
11 | 12 | | graduated from the Goodwin School in 1954 and went on to earn her |
---|
12 | 13 | | nursing degree from Angelina College in Lufkin; during her career |
---|
13 | 14 | | as a registered nurse, she provided care to patients in hospitals, |
---|
14 | 15 | | nursing homes, and residences and especially distinguished herself |
---|
15 | 16 | | through her skill in pediatric nursing; and |
---|
16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, In 1982, she met Robert G. Duda, with whom she was |
---|
17 | 18 | | joined in matrimony on February 2, 1999, and she took joy in raising |
---|
18 | 19 | | a blended family that included her four children, Jordon, Jennifer, |
---|
19 | 20 | | Jed, and Justin, and three stepchildren, Stefanie, Jeffrey, and |
---|
20 | 21 | | Gregory; over the years, her life was further enriched by her 5 |
---|
21 | 22 | | grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and |
---|
22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Proud of her heritage, Mrs. Duda was a member of the |
---|
23 | 24 | | Daughters of the Republic of Texas as well as the United States |
---|
24 | 25 | | Daughters of 1812; moreover, she was an active member of the Texas |
---|
25 | 26 | | Federation of Republican Women and the Caldwell County Republican |
---|
26 | 27 | | Women and held life membership in the Republican National |
---|
27 | 28 | | Committee; in 2007, she founded the Dictionary Project, and through |
---|
28 | 29 | | the organization, she collected and distributed dictionaries to |
---|
29 | 30 | | more than 6,000 third-grade students in Caldwell County; and |
---|
30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, A valued congregant of the Tabernacle of Deliverance |
---|
31 | 32 | | Church in Lockhart, Mrs. Duda was devoted to her faith, and in her |
---|
32 | 33 | | spare time, she enjoyed reading and studying the Bible; she was also |
---|
33 | 34 | | a talented cook and painter, and she counted sewing and tending her |
---|
34 | 35 | | garden among her favorite pursuits; and |
---|
35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Although Peggy Duda will be deeply missed, cherished |
---|
36 | 37 | | memories of time spent in her company will long endure in the hearts |
---|
37 | 38 | | of her many loved ones; now, therefore, be it |
---|
38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Peggy Butler Duda and |

40 | 41 | | extend sincere sympathy to all who mourn her passing; and, be it |
