45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
67 passing of Peggy Butler Duda of Lockhart on November 14, 2016, at
78 the age of 80; and
89 WHEREAS, Born in San Augustine County on July 2, 1936, to
910 Allie V. Quinn Butler and J. D. Butler, the former Peggy Butler grew
1011 up with the companionship of her two sisters, Joy and Shirby; she
1112 graduated from the Goodwin School in 1954 and went on to earn her
1213 nursing degree from Angelina College in Lufkin; during her career
1314 as a registered nurse, she provided care to patients in hospitals,
1415 nursing homes, and residences and especially distinguished herself
1516 through her skill in pediatric nursing; and
1617 WHEREAS, In 1982, she met Robert G. Duda, with whom she was
1718 joined in matrimony on February 2, 1999, and she took joy in raising
1819 a blended family that included her four children, Jordon, Jennifer,
1920 Jed, and Justin, and three stepchildren, Stefanie, Jeffrey, and
2021 Gregory; over the years, her life was further enriched by her 5
2122 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and
2223 WHEREAS, Proud of her heritage, Mrs. Duda was a member of the
2324 Daughters of the Republic of Texas as well as the United States
2425 Daughters of 1812; moreover, she was an active member of the Texas
2526 Federation of Republican Women and the Caldwell County Republican
2627 Women and held life membership in the Republican National
2728 Committee; in 2007, she founded the Dictionary Project, and through
2829 the organization, she collected and distributed dictionaries to
2930 more than 6,000 third-grade students in Caldwell County; and
3031 WHEREAS, A valued congregant of the Tabernacle of Deliverance
3132 Church in Lockhart, Mrs. Duda was devoted to her faith, and in her
3233 spare time, she enjoyed reading and studying the Bible; she was also
3334 a talented cook and painter, and she counted sewing and tending her
3435 garden among her favorite pursuits; and
3536 WHEREAS, Although Peggy Duda will be deeply missed, cherished
3637 memories of time spent in her company will long endure in the hearts
3738 of her many loved ones; now, therefore, be it
3839 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
3940 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Peggy Butler Duda and
4041 extend sincere sympathy to all who mourn her passing; and, be it
4142 further
4243 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4344 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4445 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Peggy Duda.
