                            H.R. No. 2538


 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Derek V. Baker of McKinney, a prominent member of
 the Collin County Conservative Republicans, has set an inspiring
 example of civic engagement through his longtime leadership and
 involvement in grassroots politics; and
 WHEREAS, An activist for conservative political causes for
 many years, Mr. Baker has twice been elected president of the CCCR
 and until recently served as the organization's finance chair;
 outside of the State of Texas, he has worked in Congress for a
 number of members of the United States Senate and House of
 Representatives, and he served the U.S. House Republican Study
 Committee as a senior policy analyst; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Baker grew up in Sherman as an eighth-generation
 Texan and went on to receive his bachelor's degree in political
 science, business, and religion from Liberty University; before
 returning to his home state, he served as the director of federal
 affairs for Americans for Limited Government; and
 WHEREAS, Today, in addition to continuing to play a vital
 role in the political arena, he also enjoys a successful career as a
 licensed Realtor with Keller Williams in McKinney, and he currently
 volunteers his time as a McKinney precinct chair and as a member of
 the Collin County Child Protective Services Board, the board of the
 Collin County Foster Friends, a charity that provides assistance to
 local foster children and their families, and the Government
 Affairs Committee of the Collin County Association of Realtors; and
 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Baker is blessed with the
 love and support of a fine family that includes his wife of 16
 years, Melissa, and their three children, Reagan, Austin, and
 Lincoln; and
 WHEREAS, Derek Baker's skill, vision, and dedication have
 contributed greatly to the advancement of conservative ideals in
 his state and community, and he has earned the respect and
 admiration of countless colleagues and fellow Texans; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby honor Derek V. Baker for his community
 engagement and his outstanding service to the Collin County
 Conservative Republicans and extend to him sincere best wishes for
 continued success and happiness; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Baker as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
