| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Andrea Miranda Paez of United South High School has |

| 6 | 7 | | been named the 2016-2017 Laredo Sector Youth of the Year by the U.S. |

| 7 | 8 | | Border Patrol; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Raymundo Miranda and America |

| 9 | 10 | | Paez-Miranda, Andrea Miranda Paez is a member of the United South |

| 10 | 11 | | Class of 2017; during her high school career, she has distinguished |

| 11 | 12 | | herself through her involvement in the Academy of Global Business |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | and Advanced Technology magnet program, and she is a member of the |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | National Honor Society, the Spanish National Honor Society, and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | LULAC Youth; in addition, she has played for the varsity tennis team |

| 15 | 16 | | and participated in University Interscholastic League academic |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | competitions; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Active in her community, Ms. Miranda Paez has |

| 18 | 19 | | completed more than 1,100 hours of service as an intern with the |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | City of Laredo accounts payable division and as a volunteer with |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | such worthwhile causes as the Sister Cities Festival, the Laredo |

| 21 | 22 | | Tennis Association youth tennis camp, and Sacred Heart Children's |

| 22 | 23 | | Home; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, This bright young Texan plans to earn a degree in |

| 24 | 25 | | biomedical science from Texas A&M University before going on to |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | attend medical school; she intends to pursue a career as an |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | oncologist and hopes to eventually return to Laredo to open a cancer |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | research and treatment center; and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Through her dedicated efforts in all her endeavors, |

| 29 | 30 | | Andrea Miranda Paez has built a strong foundation for success, and |

| 30 | 31 | | she is indeed deserving of this prestigious accolade; now, |

| 31 | 32 | | therefore, be it |

| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
