H.R. No. 2623 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Andrea Miranda Paez of United South High School has been named the 2016-2017 Laredo Sector Youth of the Year by the U.S. Border Patrol; and WHEREAS, The daughter of Raymundo Miranda and America Paez-Miranda, Andrea Miranda Paez is a member of the United South Class of 2017; during her high school career, she has distinguished herself through her involvement in the Academy of Global Business and Advanced Technology magnet program, and she is a member of the National Honor Society, the Spanish National Honor Society, and LULAC Youth; in addition, she has played for the varsity tennis team and participated in University Interscholastic League academic competitions; and WHEREAS, Active in her community, Ms. Miranda Paez has completed more than 1,100 hours of service as an intern with the City of Laredo accounts payable division and as a volunteer with such worthwhile causes as the Sister Cities Festival, the Laredo Tennis Association youth tennis camp, and Sacred Heart Children's Home; and WHEREAS, This bright young Texan plans to earn a degree in biomedical science from Texas A&M University before going on to attend medical school; she intends to pursue a career as an oncologist and hopes to eventually return to Laredo to open a cancer research and treatment center; and WHEREAS, Through her dedicated efforts in all her endeavors, Andrea Miranda Paez has built a strong foundation for success, and she is indeed deserving of this prestigious accolade; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Andrea Miranda Paez on her selection as the 2016-2017 Laredo Sector Border Patrol Youth of the Year and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Miranda Paez as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
