| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Longtime news anchor Letty Garza retired from |

| 6 | 7 | | KRGV-TV on May 24, 2017, concluding a distinguished tenure with the |

| 7 | 8 | | station that spanned nearly 35 years; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A native of McAllen, Letty Garza graduated from |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | McAllen High School in 1978 and earned her bachelor's degree in |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | communications from The University of Texas-Pan American; in 1982, |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | she began her career with Channel 5 News, where she started as an |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | intern and went on to become one of the first female Hispanic news |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | anchors in the Rio Grande Valley; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Garza quickly established herself as a mainstay |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | at KRGV, earning roles during the 1980s and mid-1990s as an anchor |

| 16 | 17 | | for the weekend newscast as well as the weekday evening news at 5, |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | 6, and 10; moreover, she was instrumental in establishing the |

| 18 | 19 | | area's first morning news program; and |

| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS; In 1994, Ms. Garza decided to scale back on her |

| 20 | 21 | | duties at the station to spend more time with her family; at that |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | time, she began working as a public information officer for the Rio |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Grande Valley sector of the United States Border Patrol while still |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | maintaining her presence at Channel 5 as host of the Wednesday's |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Child program; in 2000, she returned to reporting the news at KRGV, |

| 25 | 26 | | and she most recently served as anchor of the weekday evening news |

| 26 | 27 | | at 6 and 10; and |

| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Ms. Garza enjoys the love and |

| 28 | 29 | | support of her husband, Reynaldo, and she is the proud mother of a |

| 29 | 30 | | daughter, Talisa; and |

| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, For more than three decades, this esteemed Texan has |

| 31 | 32 | | devoted herself to providing vital information to her fellow |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | citizens, and she is indeed deserving of recognition for her many |

| 33 | 34 | | valuable contributions to the Rio Grande Valley; now, therefore, be |
