 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Longtime news anchor Letty Garza retired from
 KRGV-TV on May 24, 2017, concluding a distinguished tenure with the
 station that spanned nearly 35 years; and
 WHEREAS, A native of McAllen, Letty Garza graduated from
 McAllen High School in 1978 and earned her bachelor's degree in
 communications from The University of Texas-Pan American; in 1982,
 she began her career with Channel 5 News, where she started as an
 intern and went on to become one of the first female Hispanic news
 anchors in the Rio Grande Valley; and
 WHEREAS, Ms. Garza quickly established herself as a mainstay
 at KRGV, earning roles during the 1980s and mid-1990s as an anchor
 for the weekend newscast as well as the weekday evening news at 5,
 6, and 10; moreover, she was instrumental in establishing the
 area's first morning news program; and
 WHEREAS; In 1994, Ms. Garza decided to scale back on her
 duties at the station to spend more time with her family; at that
 time, she began working as a public information officer for the Rio
 Grande Valley sector of the United States Border Patrol while still
 maintaining her presence at Channel 5 as host of the Wednesday's
 Child program; in 2000, she returned to reporting the news at KRGV,
 and she most recently served as anchor of the weekday evening news
 at 6 and 10; and
 WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Ms. Garza enjoys the love and
 support of her husband, Reynaldo, and she is the proud mother of a
 daughter, Talisa; and
 WHEREAS, For more than three decades, this esteemed Texan has
 devoted herself to providing vital information to her fellow
 citizens, and she is indeed deserving of recognition for her many
 valuable contributions to the Rio Grande Valley; now, therefore, be
 it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Letty Garza on her retirement from
 KRGV-TV and extend to her sincere best wishes as she embarks on the
 next exciting chapter in her life; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Ms. Garza as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
