H.R. No. 2696
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Kassandra Juarez of Rio Grande City received a Best
Mariachi Vocalist in the U.S. award at the 22nd annual Mariachi
Vargas Extravaganza National Vocal Competition held in San Antonio
in December 2016; and
WHEREAS, Each year, this contest showcases hundreds of young
mariachi musicians from across the nation who gather to compete in
vocal, group, and songwriting categories; considered the world's
largest and most prestigious such event, the Mariachi Vargas
Extravaganza also features workshops as well as performances by a
number of major artists; and
WHEREAS, A student at Rio Grande City High School, Ms. Juarez
took home top honors in the high school vocalist competition after
dazzling a panel of judges with her skilled musicianship and
technical facility; in winning the title, she also earned the
opportunity to perform in concert with the renowned Mariachi Vargas
de Tecalitlán; and
WHEREAS, Kassandra Juarez has demonstrated a steadfast
commitment to excellence in developing her musical talent, and her
hard work and dedication are paving the way for a future bright with
promise; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Kassandra Juarez on winning a Best
Mariachi Vocalist in the U.S. award at the 2016 Mariachi Vargas
Extravaganza National Vocal Competition and extend to her sincere
best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Juarez as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
