45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt by
67 the loved ones of Jordan Javon Edwards of Mesquite, whose life was
78 tragically cut short on April 29, 2017, at the age of 15; and
89 WHEREAS, Born on October 25, 2001, in Fort Worth, Jordan
910 Edwards was the son of Shaunkeyia Keyon Stephens and Odell Lavar
1011 Edwards, and he grew up with the companionship of seven brothers and
1112 sisters; he began his lifelong involvement in football when he was a
1213 young boy at Gentry Elementary School in Mesquite, and after
1314 enrolling at Mesquite High School, he became a proud member of the
1415 freshman football team, playing quarterback and receiver; he pushed
1516 himself persistently as an athlete, often giving up leisure
1617 activities to maintain his training regimen; understanding the
1718 importance of education, he devoted himself to his schoolwork as
1819 well and earned straight A's in his classes; after graduating, he
1920 hoped to continue his studies and his football career at the
2021 University of Alabama; and
2122 WHEREAS, Known for his positive attitude and the engaging
2223 smile that he often wore, Jordan was well liked by his teachers, his
2324 classmates, his coaches, and his fellow players; although football
2425 was his passion, his greatest joy came from his family and friends,
2526 and he always made an effort to ensure that others felt loved and
2627 included; and
2728 WHEREAS, A young man who demonstrated boundless drive and
2829 enthusiasm, Jordan Edwards also possessed a kind and gentle nature
2930 that touched the hearts of everyone around him, and his memory will
3031 forever be cherished by those who held him dear; now, therefore, be
3132 it
3233 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
3334 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Jordan Javon Edwards
3435 and extend deepest condolences to the members of his family: to his
3536 father, Odell Edwards, and his wife, Charmaine; to his mother,
3637 Shaunkeyia Stephens; to his siblings, Vidal, Kevon, Korrie, Kyleah,
3738 Kei'Morah, Fiston, and Vicktoriyah; and to his other relatives, his
3839 friends, and all who join them in mourning his passing; and, be it
3940 further
4041 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4142 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4243 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jordan
4344 Edwards.
