H.R. No. 2710 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt by the loved ones of Jordan Javon Edwards of Mesquite, whose life was tragically cut short on April 29, 2017, at the age of 15; and WHEREAS, Born on October 25, 2001, in Fort Worth, Jordan Edwards was the son of Shaunkeyia Keyon Stephens and Odell Lavar Edwards, and he grew up with the companionship of seven brothers and sisters; he began his lifelong involvement in football when he was a young boy at Gentry Elementary School in Mesquite, and after enrolling at Mesquite High School, he became a proud member of the freshman football team, playing quarterback and receiver; he pushed himself persistently as an athlete, often giving up leisure activities to maintain his training regimen; understanding the importance of education, he devoted himself to his schoolwork as well and earned straight A's in his classes; after graduating, he hoped to continue his studies and his football career at the University of Alabama; and WHEREAS, Known for his positive attitude and the engaging smile that he often wore, Jordan was well liked by his teachers, his classmates, his coaches, and his fellow players; although football was his passion, his greatest joy came from his family and friends, and he always made an effort to ensure that others felt loved and included; and WHEREAS, A young man who demonstrated boundless drive and enthusiasm, Jordan Edwards also possessed a kind and gentle nature that touched the hearts of everyone around him, and his memory will forever be cherished by those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Jordan Javon Edwards and extend deepest condolences to the members of his family: to his father, Odell Edwards, and his wife, Charmaine; to his mother, Shaunkeyia Stephens; to his siblings, Vidal, Kevon, Korrie, Kyleah, Kei'Morah, Fiston, and Vicktoriyah; and to his other relatives, his friends, and all who join them in mourning his passing; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jordan Edwards.
