| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Manuel E. Lopez III was selected to participate in |

| 6 | 7 | | the 2017 Moreno/Rangel Legislative Leadership Program, and during |

| 7 | 8 | | the 85th Legislative Session, he has ably served his fellow Texans |

| 8 | 9 | | as an aide in the office of State Representative Ana Hernandez; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Mexican American Legislative |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Leadership Foundation, this program offers outstanding university |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | students and recent graduates an opportunity to serve as full-time |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | policy interns in the offices of members of the Texas House of |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Representatives; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of his tenure at the State Capitol, |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Mr. Lopez has provided vital assistance in handling a wide variety |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | of challenging tasks; in addition to gaining valuable experience in |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | the field of public service, he has learned more about the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | legislative process and the issues facing citizens of the Lone Star |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | State; and |

| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Lopez graduated with honors from The University |

| 21 | 22 | | of Texas at El Paso in December 2016 with a bachelor's degree in |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | political science; outside of his studies, he has worked as a tutor |

| 23 | 24 | | and teaching assistant and held leadership roles with the |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | University Democrats and the Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity; |

| 25 | 26 | | moreover, he has given generously of his time and talents to such |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | worthy organizations and initiatives as These Hands Don't Hurt, the |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | Villa Maria Women's Shelter, Ronald McDonald House Charities, and |

| 28 | 29 | | Mothers Against Drunk Driving; and |

| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, This outstanding young Texan has performed his |

| 30 | 31 | | duties as a legislative aide with skill and dedication, and he is |

| 31 | 32 | | indeed deserving of special recognition for his fine work; now, |

| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
