5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The city of Amarillo lost an admired civic leader |

6 | 7 | | with the death of Keith Roger Williams on May 19, 2017, at the age of |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of L. Keith and Bonnie Williams, Roger |
---|
9 | 10 | | Williams was born on September 10, 1951, and grew up in Kansas City, |
---|
10 | 11 | | Missouri; he completed both his bachelor's and master's degrees at |
---|
11 | 12 | | Brigham Young University; and |
---|
12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Williams was the proud father of three children |
---|
13 | 14 | | by his first marriage, Stewart, Marissa, and Marshall, and |
---|
14 | 15 | | following his marriage to Ana Estevez on December 26, 2003, he |
---|
15 | 16 | | welcomed two more children, Nikki and Alexis, into his treasured |
---|
16 | 17 | | family; moreover, he took great delight in his role as grandfather |
---|
17 | 18 | | to Bailee, Ethan, Kai, and Landree; and |

18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, The face of Bell Helicopter in the community, |

19 | 20 | | Mr. Williams was one of the first staff members at the plant when it |

20 | 21 | | opened; over the course of his long tenure, he served in a number of |
---|
21 | 22 | | key roles, including site leader, director of administration, |
---|
22 | 23 | | executive director, and head of human resources; he was a kind |
---|
23 | 24 | | mentor to numerous colleagues, and he was known in the wider |
---|
24 | 25 | | community for his leadership in charitable organizations; |

25 | 26 | | dedicated to the United Way of Amarillo and Canyon, he helped raise |
---|
26 | 27 | | more than $5 million as co-chair of its 2008 annual campaign, and he |
---|
27 | 28 | | served on the executive board for a dozen years; he was a member of |
---|
28 | 29 | | many other nonprofit boards as well; and |
---|
29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Sustained by a profound faith, Mr. Williams was an |
---|
30 | 31 | | active member of First Baptist Church, where he even helped out in |
---|
31 | 32 | | the nursery; following his retirement in 2012, he became deeply |
---|
32 | 33 | | involved in the church refugee programs and drove vans to bring ESL |
---|
33 | 34 | | students to their classes at First Baptist; he also devoted |
---|
34 | 35 | | considerable time, effort, and resources to help people in need in |
---|
35 | 36 | | Haiti; an avid scholar and voracious reader, he studied a wide range |
---|
36 | 37 | | of subjects; he also loved travel and music and was a great |
---|
37 | 38 | | supporter of the Amarillo Symphony; and |
---|
38 | 39 | | WHEREAS, The life of Roger Williams stands as an inspiring |
---|
39 | 40 | | example of service to others, and though he will be deeply missed by |
---|
40 | 41 | | those he has left behind, they will forever treasure their memories |
---|
41 | 42 | | of his magnificent smile, sharp wit, and boundless generosity; now, |
---|
42 | 43 | | therefore, be it |

43 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |

44 | 45 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of K. Roger Williams and |
