45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The city of Amarillo lost an admired civic leader
67 with the death of Keith Roger Williams on May 19, 2017, at the age of
78 65; and
89 WHEREAS, The son of L. Keith and Bonnie Williams, Roger
910 Williams was born on September 10, 1951, and grew up in Kansas City,
1011 Missouri; he completed both his bachelor's and master's degrees at
1112 Brigham Young University; and
1213 WHEREAS, Mr. Williams was the proud father of three children
1314 by his first marriage, Stewart, Marissa, and Marshall, and
1415 following his marriage to Ana Estevez on December 26, 2003, he
1516 welcomed two more children, Nikki and Alexis, into his treasured
1617 family; moreover, he took great delight in his role as grandfather
1718 to Bailee, Ethan, Kai, and Landree; and
1819 WHEREAS, The face of Bell Helicopter in the community,
1920 Mr. Williams was one of the first staff members at the plant when it
2021 opened; over the course of his long tenure, he served in a number of
2122 key roles, including site leader, director of administration,
2223 executive director, and head of human resources; he was a kind
2324 mentor to numerous colleagues, and he was known in the wider
2425 community for his leadership in charitable organizations;
2526 dedicated to the United Way of Amarillo and Canyon, he helped raise
2627 more than $5 million as co-chair of its 2008 annual campaign, and he
2728 served on the executive board for a dozen years; he was a member of
2829 many other nonprofit boards as well; and
2930 WHEREAS, Sustained by a profound faith, Mr. Williams was an
3031 active member of First Baptist Church, where he even helped out in
3132 the nursery; following his retirement in 2012, he became deeply
3233 involved in the church refugee programs and drove vans to bring ESL
3334 students to their classes at First Baptist; he also devoted
3435 considerable time, effort, and resources to help people in need in
3536 Haiti; an avid scholar and voracious reader, he studied a wide range
3637 of subjects; he also loved travel and music and was a great
3738 supporter of the Amarillo Symphony; and
3839 WHEREAS, The life of Roger Williams stands as an inspiring
3940 example of service to others, and though he will be deeply missed by
4041 those he has left behind, they will forever treasure their memories
4142 of his magnificent smile, sharp wit, and boundless generosity; now,
4243 therefore, be it
4344 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
4445 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of K. Roger Williams and
4546 extend sincere sympathy to all who mourn his passing; and, be it
4647 further
4748 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4849 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4950 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Roger
5051 Williams.
