45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The city of Dallas lost an accomplished attorney and
67 admired philanthropist with the passing of Michael Francis Wurst on
78 January 11, 2017, at the age of 58; and
89 WHEREAS, The son of David and Anne Wurst, Michael Wurst was
910 born in Pontiac, Michigan, on September 15, 1958, and grew up with
1011 the companionship of four siblings, Andrea, Jerry, Tom, and Peter;
1112 a member of the Class of 1976 at St. Joseph High School in South
1213 Bend, Indiana, he went on to graduate with a bachelor's degree in
1314 psychology from the University of North Texas in 1981 and a juris
1415 doctor degree from the University of Houston in 1986; and
1516 WHEREAS, Mr. Wurst built a successful career in real estate
1617 and financial law that spanned more than three decades, and he most
1718 recently served as associate general counsel for ORIX USA; in
1819 addition to his busy professional life, he dedicated his time and
1920 energies in behalf of numerous worthwhile organizations, including
2021 Youth with Faces, the Catholic Charities of Dallas Archangels Men's
2122 Club, the Dallas Parochial League, the UNT Dallas College of Law,
2223 the ORIX Foundation, Café Momentum, the St. Vincent DePaul Society,
2324 the North Texas Food Bank, and several local schools; and
2425 WHEREAS, In his leisure hours, Mr. Wurst was a voracious
2526 reader, an enthusiastic patron of the arts, and an avid sports fan
2627 who held season tickets to the Dallas Mavericks for more than a
2728 quarter century; in meeting life's challenges, he drew great
2829 strength and inspiration from his faith, and he cherished the time
2930 spent in the company of his loved ones; he was devoted to his wife,
3031 Robin Minick, and took tremendous pride in his four sons, Anthony,
3132 Nicholas, Vincent, and Kyle; and
3233 WHEREAS, Michael Wurst lived a life that was rich in personal
3334 and professional achievements, and though his time on this earth
3435 was too brief, memories of his kindness, generosity of spirit, and
3536 wonderful sense of humor remain to comfort those who had the
3637 privilege to know him; now, therefore, be it
3738 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
3839 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Michael Francis Wurst
3940 and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family and to
4041 his many friends; and, be it further
4142 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4243 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4344 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Michael
4445 Wurst.
