5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The city of Dallas lost an accomplished attorney and |

6 | 7 | | admired philanthropist with the passing of Michael Francis Wurst on |

7 | 8 | | January 11, 2017, at the age of 58; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of David and Anne Wurst, Michael Wurst was |
---|
9 | 10 | | born in Pontiac, Michigan, on September 15, 1958, and grew up with |
---|
10 | 11 | | the companionship of four siblings, Andrea, Jerry, Tom, and Peter; |
---|
11 | 12 | | a member of the Class of 1976 at St. Joseph High School in South |
---|
12 | 13 | | Bend, Indiana, he went on to graduate with a bachelor's degree in |
---|
13 | 14 | | psychology from the University of North Texas in 1981 and a juris |
---|
14 | 15 | | doctor degree from the University of Houston in 1986; and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Wurst built a successful career in real estate |
---|
16 | 17 | | and financial law that spanned more than three decades, and he most |
---|
17 | 18 | | recently served as associate general counsel for ORIX USA; in |
---|
18 | 19 | | addition to his busy professional life, he dedicated his time and |
---|
19 | 20 | | energies in behalf of numerous worthwhile organizations, including |
---|
20 | 21 | | Youth with Faces, the Catholic Charities of Dallas Archangels Men's |
---|
21 | 22 | | Club, the Dallas Parochial League, the UNT Dallas College of Law, |
---|
22 | 23 | | the ORIX Foundation, Café Momentum, the St. Vincent DePaul Society, |
---|
23 | 24 | | the North Texas Food Bank, and several local schools; and |
---|
24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, In his leisure hours, Mr. Wurst was a voracious |
---|
25 | 26 | | reader, an enthusiastic patron of the arts, and an avid sports fan |
---|
26 | 27 | | who held season tickets to the Dallas Mavericks for more than a |
---|
27 | 28 | | quarter century; in meeting life's challenges, he drew great |
---|
28 | 29 | | strength and inspiration from his faith, and he cherished the time |
---|
29 | 30 | | spent in the company of his loved ones; he was devoted to his wife, |
---|
30 | 31 | | Robin Minick, and took tremendous pride in his four sons, Anthony, |
---|
31 | 32 | | Nicholas, Vincent, and Kyle; and |
---|
32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Michael Wurst lived a life that was rich in personal |
---|
33 | 34 | | and professional achievements, and though his time on this earth |
---|
34 | 35 | | was too brief, memories of his kindness, generosity of spirit, and |
---|
35 | 36 | | wonderful sense of humor remain to comfort those who had the |
---|
36 | 37 | | privilege to know him; now, therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
---|
38 | 39 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Michael Francis Wurst |
---|
39 | 40 | | and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family and to |
---|
40 | 41 | | his many friends; and, be it further |
---|
41 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

42 | 43 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |

43 | 44 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Michael |
